First draft celebration!

Yes – the day has come – the first draft is finished. It is 122,538 words, or just over 400 pages. There are many things wrong with it, I think. But this was always to be expected. Now, in a week’s time, I will take a printed copy and read it through, in order to focus my efforts for the second draft.

I was less excited than I thought I would be to do the first draft, partially because the business of the second draft has been lingering over me for a little bit, the things I know already that I want to change, the things that I know really need work. But now at least I can move onwards with that process. A new era has begun.
