Writers’ rooms

The Guardian, in the UK, does a fun series called Writers’ Rooms, which, like it sounds, shows pictures of the rooms where writers work. I especially admire Louis de Bernieres’ room – what fun to be off in a corner of the garden – and Joan Bakewell’s, for the nice white minimalism.

Mine does the best it can:

I like to be surrounded by books, it’s very inspiring. It’s also tucked into a corner that takes advantage of the sloped ceilings to emphasize the “writing in an attic” sort of feeling. The only problem is that it’s not actually a room – as you can probably tell, from the back of the television, it shares a room with the living area and the dining area. That’s fine. It’s not as if writing is a particularly physical job.
